| AHCSB Exec. Dir. Barber Leads Tour Of Nearly $4 Million Substance Use Continuum Facility
|
| Covington, VA (Aug. 13, 2025) - At one time, it was a bowling alley, then later a construction company's office - but now, thanks to some opioid grant funding and a whole lot more, the Pine Street building is in the middle of a $3.9 million upgrading to house what is being called the "Substance Use Continuum of Care Project", with the Alleghany Highlands Community Services organization its driving force.
According to both Exec. Dir. Ingrid Barber and CSB Board Chair Stephanie Clark, the facility, with about 20,000 square feet of space on two floors, will allow the agency's staff to host a peer drop-in center, a community meeting and training space, flexible office space for community partners to meet with individuals, and a continuum of substance use services under one roof.
Staff members provided a tour of the facility for interested individuals and members of the press.
The Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority and the Cooperative Partnerships for Cities and Counties program provided the funding. The project is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2026.
Balzer & Associates provided the architectural services and Lionberger Construction is doing the overall job.
Both Covington City Manager and Alleghany County Administrator were present for the tour sessions and both indicated their support for the necessary services scheduled for their regions.
AHCS provided 167 services in the substance use program area in 2025, and last year, provided services to 1,562 individuals in the catchment area.
The Journal will have some video of the session coming up later. | |
