Knick Named Distinguished Lieutenant Governor by Kiwanis Capital District

Covington, VA (March 25, 2025) - On March 19, 2025, Susan E. Knick of Alleghany County was honored with the title of Distinguished Lieutenant Governor by Immediate Past Governor Eric Lamb of the Capital District Kiwanis. This recognition underscores Knick’s dedication to the principles of Kiwanis and her exceptional service to her community and the overall mission of Kiwanis International.

The Capital District of Kiwanis International encompasses over 165 clubs across Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia, representing a large and collaborative network of service-oriented individuals dedicated to enhancing their communities. There are eighteen Lieutenant Governors, including Knick, who serve as vital liaisons connecting clubs to the Governor and Kiwanis International, fostering unity and support across the district. Knick is one of only two Lieutenant Governors to earn the award this year.

Throughout her tenure as Lieutenant Governor for Division 9 of the Capital District, Knick exhibited outstanding leadership over a diverse group of Kiwanis clubs, including those in Charlottesville, Waynesboro, Harrisonburg, 2 clubs in Staunton, Lexington, 2 clubs in Alleghany County, and the Greenbrier Valley Area club in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

Under her guidance, these clubs not only thrived but also received commendations for significant growth in membership and for their impactful contributions to the communities they serve.

In delivering the award, Governor Lamb spoke warmly of Knick’s accomplishments. “I am proud to recognize Susan’s invaluable contributions and celebrate her numerous achievements,” he stated. “As Kiwanis continues to evolve and adapt to the needs of its communities, the commitment displayed by leaders like Susan is crucial for invigorating the organization’s mission and vision for the future.”

Since joining Kiwanis International in 2018, Knick has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the organization’s goals. She was previously honored as Distinguished Charter President of the Jackson River Area Club in 2022 and in 2024 awarded the prestigious George F. Hixson Fellowship. Named after the first president of Kiwanis International, this fellowship honors individuals who have made significant contributions to Kiwanis’ legacy of generosity and community service, further solidifying her role as a leader and advocating for the values that Kiwanis upholds.

Knick remains active with the Kiwanis Club of the Jackson River Area, serving the communities of Alleghany and Bath counties. Her ongoing participation reflects her belief in the importance of local engagement and hands-on service, which are essential for fostering community growth and resilience. “My belief is everything is possible when passion meets purpose, and I look forward to continuing to be a positive impact in our communities. I encourage everyone interested in serving the children and needs of our communities to join Kiwanis and am always grateful to share information about our club with others,” said Knick.
