| Iron Gate, VA (Feb. 18, 2025) - The Iron Gate Town Council held a productive work session this evening at town hall with a quorum present, unlike the council's last attempt earlier this month.
Newly-appointed council members Neil Hardesty and Norvella Burrell were on hand for the session.
Here are some highlights of the meeting:
• Mayor Kawahna Persinger noted that bills have been approved for payment to Hammon-Mitchell Co. in the amount of $37,509.48 with other invoices noted to the company along with abou8t $40,000 to the Thrasher Group - all for infrastructural work on water and sewer lines within the town.
• a special election set for November 2025 will be held to decide the seats of both Hardesty and Burrell, since they are filling the seats of unfulfilled terms.
• the town council discussed the acquisition of sewer aid sizzle and ice melt products to aid the town's operations.
• Mayor Persinger noted that she would be on hand for proclamation signings for MS Awareness Month and Alleghany Highlands Clean Up Month.
• Mayor Persinger indicated that the town would request the assistance of the town of Clifton Forge in changing out its flags for Rte. 220, sometime in April.
• the town is also attempting to clarify an alley issue near Home Clark's former property to determine proper boundary lines.
• and finally, the town will proceed to change the number of town council seats from six to four in the coming months. That will involve legislature approval and a great deal of documentation and legal issues.
