| By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer | Covington, VA (Nov. 7, 2026)— During last night's Alleghany High School (AHS) senior night football game, the Cougars took on the Wildcats, defeating them with ease as junior Buddy Leisure-White broke a new school record. While the Cougars took home the win, 34-12, over Rockbridge, Buddy Leisure-White broke the Alleghany High School all-time single season rushing record with 1,821 yards. The record was previously held by Garrett Via who had 1,816.
It was a fairly slow start to the game, but Alleghany would become the first to score late in the first quarter, thanks to a touchdown run by Colton Jack. Mason Hale's extra point kick was good, giving the Cougars a 7-0 lead over the Wildcats going into the second quarter.
The second is when things really heated up for Alleghany. An early interception by Bronson Shinault early led to points on the point in the very next play. Buddy Leisure-White rushed for a 67-yard touchdown, further expanding the Cougars lead over the Wildcats. The extra point kick was blocked, making the score 13-0, Alleghany. A second touchdown by Buddy Leisure-White just minutes later expanded the Cougars' lead, despite the two-point conversion attempt being no good. The score was 19-0. Just before the close of the half, Talyn Elliott rushed for a fourth Cougar touchdown, giving Mason Hale the opportunity to add to the lead with an extra point kick. The score was 26-0 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, with 11:40 on the clock, Buddy-Leisure made history with a 73-yard rushing touchdown, bringing his total rushing yards for the season to 1,821, overcoming the previous record by five yards. The two-point conversion attempt was good and the Cougars pulled further ahead of the Wildcats, 34-0. That touchdown would be the last one for Alleghany for the night.
In the fourth quarter, Rockbridge piled on two touchdowns, though they were unable to capitalize on a two-point conversion or an extra point kick, bringing the final game total to 34-12, Cougars. | | | | | |
