Covington, VA (Oct. 29, 2026)— Lilac Meadows, located at 203 Interstate Drive in Covington, celebrated its grand opening with a special ribbon-cutting event earlier today inside their facility.
Lilac Meadows, if the address is unfamiliar, is housed in the former Compare Inn hotel. Remodeling of the facility included adding on to the property, as well as incorporating the building adjacent to it.
As defined in their program, the independent living community is "for adults 55 and up" with a "focus on a safe, secure, warm and inviting environment, where new acquaintances become family." Dr. Krishna Sankar, the owner of Lilac Meadows, spoke briefly at the ceremony to express his enthusiasm for its opening.
Also speaking at the ribbon-cutting were Josh Taylor, Executive Director for Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism (AHCCT); Chris Doyle, President of the AHCCT; Allan Tucker, Councilman for the City of Covington; Jeff Irvine, Clifton Forge Mayor; Tyler Sizemore, Deputy Director for Alleghany Highlands Economic Development; and Sankar. | | Dr. Krishna Sankar and wife, Lalitha Sankar, posed for a quick picture with the Journal shortly after cutting the ribbon on their new facility.
