Covington, VA (Oct. 20, 2026) - Franklin County, Virginia native, and true crime author Phillip Andrew Gibbs will be visiting the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library for an author talk and book signing on Tuesday evening, November 3rd at 6:00 pm. Mr. Gibbs will be promoting his new book, “Law & Order for Hire in Virginia”, which will be released on October 27, 2026.
“Law & Order for Hire in Virginia” focuses on the state’s lack of a formal investigative agency in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During this violent and lawless time, much responsibility for this work fell on Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency, headquartered in Roanoke, VA. They investigated some of the state’s most sensational murder cases, which Gibbs recounts in this latest book.
Mr. Gibbs holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in History and English from East Tennessee State University. He received his Ph.D. in American History from Mississippi State University. After over 25 years as a history professor at Middle Georgia State College (now University), he is now retired and enjoys tennis, cycling, and traveling. Mr. Gibbs makes his home in Perry, Georgia, where he is also a professional musician with the Rock, Pop, and R&B band the Georgia Chryslers. Copies of “Law & Order for Hire in Virginia” will be available for purchase during the event.
