Alleghany Cougars Fall to Buffalo Gap in Homecoming Game
| By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer | Covington, VA (Oct. 9, 2026)— The Alleghany Cougars suffered a disappointing loss during Friday night's homecoming football game, falling to the Buffalo Gap Bisons 27-7. The highly anticipated game was hosted at Casey Field and lasted roughly two hours.
A slow-moving game, the Bisons received the ball first, holding onto it for nearly the entire first quarter, finally scoring with 1:48 remaining until the second half. With the extra point kick good, the Bisons were off to an early lead of 7-0 against the Cougars.
Early in the second, Buffalo Gap struck again at 9:11, putting seven more points on the board, extending their lead over the Cougars to 14-0. That score would ultimately take the game into halftime.
With less than eight minutes on the clock in the third, the Bisons once again found their way into the endzone, further extending their lead over the Cougars 21-0.
In the fourth, the Cougars were the first to strike. With a pass from quarterback Tallyn Elliott (8) to wide receiver Colten Jack (15), the Cougars were on the board with 7:58 remaining in the game. Mason Hale's (7) extra point kick was good, moving the score to 21-7, Bisons.
Buffalo Gap quickly responded, scoring a fourth touchdown with 5:32 remaining in the game. The extra point kick was no good, but the damage had been done. The game ended 27-7, with the Bisons overtaking the Cougars.
