Clifton Forge, VA (Oct. 9, 2026)— Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) hosted their annual Roadrunner Day for area high schoolers on Friday, October 9. The event commenced at about 9:30 a.m. and ended after a catered lunch from Luca's, funded by Mountain Gateway.
Roadrunner Day is "like a big open house, but it's only for our [service area] high school students," said Matt McMgraw, Chief Workforce Officer at MGCC. Those service areas include Boys Home of Virginia, Alleghany High School, Bath County High School, Parry McCluer High School, Rockbridge County High School, and James River High School.
Event activities included an official welcome by Dr. John Rainone and Dr. Ben Worth, campus tours, faculty introductions, career exploration, photos with Mountain Gateway's Roadrunner mascot, and various prizes for a few lucky winners.
Before parting, the Journal learned from Dr. Rainone that MGCC also hosts a Roadrunner Day for middle school students in the Spring, so they, soon, will get to enjoy a day on Mountain Gateway's stunning campus. | | From left, college president Dr. John Rainone and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ben Worth
