Annual Farm Fest Event Draws Massive Crowd at Jackson River Sports Complex By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer   (Covington, VA)— The Jackson River Sports Complex (JRSC) hosted their annual Farm Fest event on Saturday, September 19, from 11:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m. Sponsored in collaboration with Covington Parks and Recreation and Alleghany FFA, the five-hour-long event featured a plethora of activities like chicken poop bingo, dozens of vendors, a raffle, a poultry and small animal exchange, an opportunity to pet and interact with many farm animals, and so much more! The Journal arrived on the scene around noon and immediately noticed the challenge it would be just to find a parking spot. It seemed most residents in the Alleghany Highlands all decided to spend their day at the sports complex. As the Alaskan Fiddlin' Poet, Ken Waldman, played his fiddle on the stage at the ampitheatre, several vendors were set up in the field, including handmade goods, food trucks, and a display which helped children learn how to milk a cow. In the field behind the ampitheatre, there was a bouncy house, several games for children, and dozens of animals waiting to be pet and fed. We were excited to join in on the action, petting a tiny black goat who had much to say during our visit. Those who were perhaps unable to visit Farm Fest this year should make it a point to mark their calendars when it rolls around again in 2027. The Journal highly recommends this event which is fitting for the whole family.
