Hot Springs, VA (Sept. 18, 2026)— On Friday evening, September 18, the Bath County High School (BCHS) Chargers played on their own home field against the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs in a stunning 20-0 shutout victory.
Fans were treated to a pre-game show by the high school's award-winning marching band, and your Journal was on the scene to capture all the action of both. Following the band's stellar performance, it was time for the football players to hit the field and dazzle the crowd with their own moves.
The first quarter appeared to be a scoreless one until the Bulldogs made their way down the field and found themselves in field goal range. With around 3:30 remaining on the clock, Chargers #30, Isaac Phillips, dove in front of the kick, blocking it and shutting down—what would ultimately be—the Bulldogs only shot at putting points on the board.
With their momentum freshly shifted, the next play by the Chargers led to a huge run down the field by senior Walker Randozzo (#13), who scored the first touchdown of the game with 3:00 remaining on the clock in the first quarter. One blocked kick later and the Chargers closed the first quarter with a 6-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
About midways through the second, Isaac Phillips received a handoff from quarterback (#8) DaJay Palmer, running the ball in for the Chargers' second touchdown of the game. The extra point kick by Edward Perdue was good, pushing the Chargers further ahead, 13-0, where the scoreboard would rest for the remainder of the first half.
Following a scoreless third quarter, the fourth started out with a few turnovers. Randozzo secured an interception for the Chargers with 10:55 remaining in the game. However, in the very next play, the home team fumbled the ball which was then recovered the Bulldogs. The Chargers would later run in a touchdown with 3:17 left on the clock, but it was called back due a holding penalty.
However, with 1:20 remaining, Phillips ran in his second touchdown of the evening, bringing the Chargers lead up to 19-0. The extra point by Perdue proved successful, bringing the score up to 20-0, Chargers. Such would be the final blow of the night for the Bulldogs, bringing the boys in orange a shutout victory against their opponents in red.
