Alleghany Co. Supervisors: Respect For Dodd, Stormwater Code Updates, Radio System Upgrade & More

 
Low Moor, VA (Sept. 1, 2026) - The Alleghany County Board of Supervisors held a busy, production session on Tuesday evening.

The public got to hear lots of information about the activities of the Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board, the Greater Roanoke Workforce Development Board and much more.

Here is a quick summary of the meeting:

• the board heard Zoning Administrator Beth Stull ask for and receive approval for Cahpter 52 Stormwater Management amendments (state requirements)

• got a thorough update on regional road and maintenance activity from VDOT Resident Engineer, Susan Hammond.

• delayed a replacement appointment for Jason Helmintoller on the Social Services Board until next month

• heard an extensive capital programs and operational set of updates from AH Community Services Exec. Dir. Ingrid Barber

• unanimously passed a resolution of respect for the late Greg Dodd

• approved an upgraded contract for its L3Harris radio system

• noted the personal property tax relief rate for the current year is 49%

• approved a request from the Town of Iron Gate for a new ambulance (half of the cost is grant funded)

• appointed Supervisors Courtney Howard and James Griffith to the Tourism Advisory Committee

• got an extensive list of program and other updates from a report by County Administrator Ken McFadyen

• held its normal set of Supervisor public comments

• went into an Exective session to deal with an acquisition and disposition of property and held a consultation with its legal personnel
