Clifton Forge High School Celebrates 60th Reunion in 3-Day-Event

Clifton Forge, VA (Aug. 20, 2026)— The Clifton Forge High School (CFHS) Mountaineers Class of 1966 commemorated their 60th high school reunion this evening with a delightful gathering at the Hillcrest Manor. The historic Hillcrest Manor, originally built between 1910-1911, is situated at 1100 McCormick Boulevard in Clifton Forge, and was graciously hosted by Martha Hillcrest and her parents.
Hillcrest treated guests to a sumptuous feast she personally prepared. The dining table was adorned with an array of delectable dishes, including succulent shrimp, savory stuffed mushrooms, and grilled chicken, among many other dishes. Dinner was served buffet-style in the elegant dining room.
The CFHS Alumni, with JoAnn Carter Henson at the head, meticulously planned the 3-day reunion event to be extra special for the extra special 60th year. Festivities commenced with a meet-and-greet session from 5 to 6 p.m., providing an opportunity for old classmates to reconnect and reminisce about their shared high school experiences.
Throughout the evening, guests were treated to a selection of drinks, expertly served by a dedicated bartender, as well as a few snacks. The event was not only a celebration of the past but also a chance to create new memories among lifelong friends who grew up together in the town of Clifton Forge. The Journal overhead a conversation in which one former student stated, "We grew up like brothers and sisters."
This evening's reunion also served as a reminder of the class's remarkable legacy. The CFHS Class of 1966 proudly holds the distinction of achieving an undefeated 23-0 season and historically winning the state championship for the first time in the school's history with their victory over Thomas Walker High School, 71-51. This incredible feat was accomplished under the expert guidance of Coach Colin Ferguson who, we are certain, holds a special place in the hearts of the alumni.
The remaining two nights of this landmark alumni weekend will be held at the Historic Masonic Theatre, with Friday night's festivities happening in the Underground, and Saturday night's being held in the form of a special dinner in the West Rock Room.
