| Cov. City Council: Givens Honored, Appointments Made & More

| Covington, VA (July 14, 2026) - The Covington City Council mainly dealt with relatively routine items lTuesday night, but here are a few quick notes on its action:
• enjoyed a pleasant invocation from Pastor Bill Gilliland
• heard from citizen and Sheriff Kyle Moore about adequate Sheriff's Dept. funding, but supplied complaints about certain S. Carpenter Dr. potholes...
• decided to cancel the August 4th work session due to the National Night Out event set at Main St. Park.
• approved resolution R-26-22, appropriating $5,000 in Walmart Spark God Grant Funds for Community-Based Policing (no city match)
• approved the reappointment of Tammy Scruggs-Duncan to a term on the Alleghany Economic Development Corporation
• approved the reappointment of Lee Roe to a term on the Allegany Economic Development Corporation
• reappointed Kim Jefferson to the Alleghany County Department of Social Services Board.
• reappointed city manager Allen Dressler to the Roanoke Valley - Alleghany Regional Commission Board
• unanimously approved the council's consent agenda
• approved three sets of previous meeting minutes
• heard a thorough set of issues updates from city manager Allen Dressler and noted a presentation of a plaque to 47 year employee Lonnie Givens for his service. | | | | | |
