Alleghany Highlands Regional Library Hosts 'Mr. Mike's Great Big Balloon Show' at Granbery United Methodist Church By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer   Covington, VA (July 10, 2026)— On Friday, July 10, laughter and excitement filled the air at Granbery United Methodist Church, which is located at 425 West Main Street in Covington. The popular church became a vibrant hub of joy and imagination as it hosted the delightful event known as "Mr. Mike's Great Big Balloon Show." The show, which began promptly at 11:00 a.m., was a special occasion organized for local children, bringing smiles and wonder to their eager faces. Sponsored by the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library, the fun-filled event brought plenty of laughter for both children and parents alike. Mr. Mike, the star of the show, is unlike most entertainers. With a unique blend of comedy, magic, and balloon artistry, he captivated the audience throughout the show. His charismatic presence and lively performance ensured every child was glued to their seat, eagerly watching his every move. In our opinion, the highlight of the show was Mr. Mike's rendition of a beloved Disney classic. As he skillfully crafted a balloon-version of Genie, a character from the 1992 Disney film, "Aladdin," he sang along to Robin Williams' iconic song, "Never Had a Friend Like Me." Mr. Mike's combination of music, magic, and balloon artistry was both enchanting and nostalgic, sparking joy in the hearts of both children and adults alike.
