Covington Increases Utility Bill to Assist in Funding New Infrastructure
| By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer | Covington, VA (July 7, 2026)— During tonight's Covington Work Session, it was announced that The City of Covington had implemented an increase in its utility bill. This adjustment, which came into effect on July 1st, reflects a $14 total rise in the monthly charges, bringing the previous bill of $100 to its new amount of $114.
The water portion of the bill saw an increase of $7, while the sewer portion also increased by $7. The primary motivation for this change, according to City Manager Allen Dressler, was to generate necessary funds for the city to update and maintain its infrastructure.
This will include updating the water lines to ensure that the water distribution system is both efficient and reliable, as well as replacing old pipes which have been used by the City of Covington for a number of years. Overall, the intention seems to be a higher quality of drinking water, as well as a more reliable system for residents. | | | | | |
