Covington, VA (June 18, 2026)— The former KMart building, located at 129 Mall Road in Covington, has recently been occupied by a new tenant: Highlands Centre Secure Storage. The new storage facility, owned by Matt and Dizzy Garten, houses over 500 storage units.

The pamphlet boasts a "large, affordable selection of climate-controlled units in a variety of sizes to meet every need..." According to Matt Garten, having a climate-controlled building was important in meeting the needs of customers to prevent melting, as well as the shrinking and expansion of furniture, etc. Garten also noted a current promotion of 50% off for the first three months.

The small event featured speeches by Josh Taylor, Executive Director of the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism; Michael Foster, Board Member of the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism; Susan Wolfe, Vice-Mayor of Covington; Debbie Laudermilk, Councilwoman for the town of Clifton Forge; Tyler Sizemore, Deputy Director for Alleghany Highlands Economic Development; and Matt Garten representing both the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors and speaking as one of the owners of Highlands Centre Secure Storage.

Matt Garten, Alleghany County Board of Supervisors and co-owner of Highlands Centre Secure Storage, spoke in detail about the new storage facility which houses over 500 units in various sizes and is climate-controlled for customer convenience.
