Covington, VA (June 11, 2026)— The VA250 Carnival in the Highlands kicked off their highly anticipated 3-day event with an enormous crowd on Thursday night. From June 11—June 13, the carnival is being held from 6:00 p.m.—10:00 p.m. at the Jackson River Sports Complex (JRSC), located at 870 W. Edgemont Street in Covington.

The Journal noted a high swing, two separate car rides for kids, a Scrambler, ferris wheel, merry-go-ground, and long slide as we made our way through the crowd capturing happy faces. There were also several games, a VA250 exhibit, and carnival-friendly vendors.

Friday and Saturday promise to be even more entertaining, as two different bands will be showcased in the ampitheatre. On Friday night, Gasoline Alley will take the stage, while the REO Survivor Tribute band will be featured on Saturday. We are told there will also be fireworks Saturday evening to close out the carnival.

Admission is free, however the cost to ride varies. Individual ride tickets are $1.25, 24 for $25, 72 for $60, or wristbands for unlimited rides are $20 at the gate or $15 if purchased in advance.
We spotted Covington councilwoman Susan Crowder (left) enjoying the evening with her cousins. The trio was happy to pause their night out for a photo op with the Journal.
