Low Moor, VA (June 4, 2026)ā The Creekside Bar & Grill, located in the former Cat & Owl restaurant at 110 Karnes Road in Low Moor, is the latest culinary endeavor from a group of close-knit friends and family. It is proudly owned by Jason and Deanne Helmintoller, Ricky and Amy Swoope, and Chris and ReneĆ© Harden.
ReneƩ Harden leads the team with her extensive experience in the restaurant industry, beginning her journey at Bonanza's next to KMart in Covington. From there, she waited tables in college, earned her degree, and worked as a secretary for about six months before going back to what she loved: the restaurant business.
Joining ReneĆ© are Christopher and Erin Harden, both of whom are described as the "Jacks of all trades," Chloe Goodson, the head bartender, and head chef Mike White, whose daughter, Cassidy, was the inspiration behind one of the menu items. "The Cassidy" is a chicken quesadilla that comes with pickled onion, pico de gallo, TajĆn crema, and Monterey Jack cheese.
Most other menu items are nods to popular songs through the years. The "Brown Eyed Girl" is a sandwich with shaved ribeye, smoked gouda, and beef au jus on a hoagie roll, while the "Nothing But a 'C' Thang" is a salad with cornbread croutons, pecorino, red onion, and Caesar dressing. For dessert, one might be interested in their "Hollaback Fritters," which features a deep-fried banana, bourbon butterscotch, Nilla wafers, and whipped cream.
According to ReneƩ, the Creekside Bar & Grill does its best to source all menu items locally, including food and alcoholic beverages. Among those local sources are Rich Patch Farms, the Devil's Backbone Brewing Company in Lexington, Wade's Mill in Raphine, and Rich Patch honey.
Currently, Creekside Bar & Grill is open five days a week, closing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, though Harden expects to be open seven days a week within the next two to three months. Their hours are 11:00 a.m.āmidnight, and they can be reached at 540-863-3600. | | During our visit to the recently opened establishment, the Journal noticed a memorial of Carter Wickline on the wall. According to Harden, he was a neighbor of hers and, she promised, "He will always be here. Carter will always be with us."
