Covington, VA (May 29, 2026)— Alleghany High School (AHS) held a commencement ceremony on Friday, May 29, at 6:30 p.m. for the Class of 2026. The hour-and-a-half-long ceremony took place on Mountaineer field, featured several speakers, and, of course, a presentation of diplomas for (what we counted) were close to 200 graduates.
Joowon Chung was this year's valedictorian, with Ezekiel Saville as this year's salutatorian. Guest speakers included Principal Derek Cantrell, AHPS Superintendent Kim Halterman, JRTC Director Josh Craft, and AHS English Head Karen Johnson-Hopkins. The AHS choir, led by choir director Amanda Sprouse, performed the Star Spangled Banner and Slipping Through My Fingers, while the AHS band performed Firebirds.
