BP/Subway Store In Covington Damaged   Covington, VA (May 27, 2026) - About 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, customers and the staff of the BP/Subway store on Madison Street in Covington got a big surprise: a truck had smashed into the right front side of the building, knocking glass and front brick. Thankfully, there were no injuries. Apparently, Matt Smith, 18 of Shady Springs, West Virginia, accidentally hit the gas pedal while parked just outside the store and when his Nissan pickup truck moved forward it impacted the glass, brick and more, causing substantial damage. The Subway operation was closed shortly thereafter, but is expected to be back in operation early Thursday. The BP remains open. The operation is owned by Go Mart of West Virginia. A Cox Construction crew from Waynesboro got to the scene fairly quickly today and put up plywood over the damaged area. The Journal isn't aware of any charges yet filed as a result of the incident. One staff member remarked that he believed that when all was repaired, from the custom windows to the brick and more, the damage might approach $100,000.
