| Covington, VA (May 1, 2026) - In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month and Alcohol Awareness Month, Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) is proud to announce the official opening of its expanded One Stop Continuum of Care facility. Following a year of construction, the agency marked the project's near completion with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony held on April 9th, 2026, at 311 S. Monroe Ave.
The renovation, funded in partnership with the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority, the County of Alleghany, and the City of Covington, transforms the region’s behavioral health infrastructure. This centralized hub is designed to provide comprehensive, low-barrier access to recovery services, including medication-assisted treatment, intensive outpatient programs, and a dedicated peer drop-in center featuring laundry and shower facilities.
“Opening this expansion during Alcohol Awareness Month reinforces our mission to put mental wellness and recovery at the forefront,” said Ingrid Barber, Executive Director. “This facility is a symbol of our commitment to offering hope and healing for those impacted by substance use challenges, providing a supportive environment where community members can find the resources they need to thrive.”
Under this year’s Mental Health Awareness theme, “More Good Days Together,” AHCS continues its commitment to community connection and stigma reduction. The new facility includes expanded space for group and individual therapy, primary care screening, and community meeting rooms.
As part of the ongoing Mental Health Awareness Month celebrations, AHCS invites the public to attend the “Friday Connections” event on Friday, May 8th, 2026.
