Covington, VA (Apr. 27, 2026)— It was a busy afternoon for the Journal as we visited Casey Field to meet up with Covington City Manager, Allen Dressler, and Covington Parks and Rec. Director, Lisa Worley. Readers may recall that, about a year ago, we visited with this dynamic duo at the same location as renovations for the area beneath the stadium seats were underway. The areas included the men's and women's restrooms, the officials rooms, and the visitors' locker rooms.

"They're really nice," said Worley. "Our upcoming Lumberjacks will be using this this season. It's not been used yet. Baseball chose not to use it. Most visitors come dressed for the ballgame for baseball, so no one has used it, so it will be in full use by the time the Lumberjacks get here."

Improvements for the facility included new stalls, sinks, mirrors, and baby-changing stations for both the men's and womens' restrooms, new lockers, stalls, water fountain, sinks, ice-machines, washer/dryer, and showers for the locker rooms, and fresh paint, flooring, HVAC system, and plumbing for the facility as a whole.

When asked how Dressler felt about the improvements, he stated, "Amazing. We're talking about a facility that was established in September 1962 is when the first football game was played down here. So we took the facility and, again, kudos to those folks back then in that time period that built this facility. It's not going anywhere... It's amazing for one who play sports here, who use these, and now have been able to work with folks to get it to where it's at today."

Dressler and Worley also shared that only local contractors had been used for the extensive project which, we must admit, were truly impressive during our tour today. The Journal also spoke to the duo in front of the stadium to discuss the upcoming Lumberjacks season, as well as chatted with them in the home locker room to discuss those impressive renovations, which were finished up about a year ago as well. It seems there is a lot more to come for the City of Covington in the future.

Soon, the Journal will have those interviews posted on the Alleghany Journal Facebook page. Stay tuned!

Many aspects of the renovations seem to scream "Cougar Pride!"

The fresh lawn behind the baseball field is ready to get some action come May 23rd when Lumberjacks baseball is back in full swing.

In case of injuries, the visitors' facility has been equipped with an ice machine to help with swollen ankles, etc.
