| Mountain Gateway Holds Special Book-Signing Event for School President, Dr. John Rainone
| By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer | Clifton Forge, VA (Apr. 23, 2026)— It was a busy night for Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) and your team here at the Alleghany Journal. After wrapping things up at the special Jackson River Governor's School (JRGS) Science Research Fair, we packed up our camera and headed over to the school's library just in time to catch the special book-signing event for MGCC's President, Dr. John Rainone.
This evening, Rainone released his book, "Catalysts for Change: How Fundraising Powers Student Success and Community College Transformation." The book was written in collaboration with co-author Joseph April, Senior Partner at Convergent Nonprofit Solutions, and is "...designed as a practical guide and reference tool for community college leaders, advancement professionals, and Foundation Boards."
"I've always sort of dreamt about actually doing some type of book," said Rainone, "and the good thing is I'm working on the second one already, the companion to this one." Rainone also dove into why he felt a push to write a book about fundraising. "Really, for a long time, fundraising has really been misunderstood. For many, has seen as transactional, and not transformational... Fundraising is not about dollars. It's about a belief, it's about inviting someone into a vision that matters, and it's about connecting generosity with purpose." | | | | | |
