Clifton Forge, VA (Apr. 23, 2026)— The Jackson River Governor's School (JRGS) hosted their annual Scientific Research Fair today at Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC). The event — which took place from 9:00 a.m.—10:30 a.m., and from 5:00 p.m. — 6:00 p.m. — was held in the Moomaw Center and featured a brief trophy ceremony for the top three presenters.

The students who won were Joowon Chung for her research on whether or not store bought lotions are effective at preventing water evaporation from the skin surface, Carter Nicely for his investigation into soda's effect on teeth enamel using eggshells, and Vivian Vernon for her presentation on the effects of music genre on recall performance.

There were 14 participants in this year's research fair who all showed up with decorated posters featuring their methods of scientific discovery. The Journal was on-site to capture their photos and even conduct an impromptu interview with Eddie Graham, the JRGS Director. Those photos—with more coming—are available now on the Alleghany Journal Facebook page.
