Covington, VA (Apr. 21, 2026)- The Covington City Council held a called meeting tonight, April 21, at City Hall to vote on who should fill the District 2 seat following the sudden passing of its most recent chair holder, the late Mayor Fred Forbes III.
The candidates are Michael Green, Milton Helton, and Gene Mundy, all of whom presented speeches at last week's city council meeting on Tuesday, April 14. Green received one vote from Councilman David Goff (District 1), Hilton received one vote from Mayor Raymond Hunter (District 3), and Mundy received two votes from Council woman Susan Wolfe (District 4) and Council woman Susan Crowder (District 5).
However, in order to be appointed by council, three votes are needed. The current deadlock puts the power in the hands of the Alleghany Circuit Court where a judge will appoint the District 2 seat. | | All three candidates were present in the crowd tonight, likely hoping the results would be clear this evening.
