New Treatment Center in Covington to Provide Numerous Services for those Fighting Substance Abuse

Covington, VA (Apr. 9, 2026)— Just before noon on Thursday, April, 9, the CEO of Alleghany Highlands Community Services, Ingrid Barber, officially cut the red ribbon for the new One Stop Continuum of Care Facility in Covington. Barber, who has spearheaded this project from the beginning, was among today's speakers.

"An estimated 80,000 people died from drug overdoses in the United States in 2024," Barber said, thus highlighting the importance of the new facility. "...This space will offer a peer drop-in center with shower and laundry services, medical services including nursing and psychiatry, intensive outpatient and medicated-assisted treatment, individual and group counseling, case management, jail-based services, project link, permeative supportive housing program, and a space for community partners to come in and train or connect with those that we serve."

The program given out at today's important ribbon-cutting event stated, "The all-in-one Substance Use Disorder Continuum of Care offers a centralized hub where individuals can access substance use services to support their recovery journey.

Among today's speakers included Josh Taylor, Executive Director for the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism; Chris Doyle, Board President; Susan Wolfe, Councilwoman for the City of Covington; Jeff Irvine, Mayor of Clifton Forge; Matt Garten, Chair of the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors; Greg Madsen, Board Member of the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation; Charlie Linthicum, Director of Operations for the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority; Barber; and Robin Sweeney, Board Chair for Alleghany Highlands Community Services.

At this time, we are not aware of the hours of operation or days of the week which this facility will be open. However, its official address is 311 S. Monroe Avenue, just behind the Alleghany Highlands Community Services office.

Ingrid Barber, CEO of Alleghany Highlands Community Services, noted the importance of a multi-service substance abuse facility in the area.
