CF BAD Buildings, WVU Brownfields Assistance Center, VA DEQ to Host Community Session
Prioritizing Inventory of Clifton Forge Structures Is The Goal

Clifton Forge, VA (April 6, 2026) - - The Clifton Forge BAD Buildings Team, in conjunction with the West Virginia University Brownfields Assistance Center and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, will host a public community prioritization session to begin the process of addressing a recently compiled inventory of dilapidated properties. This session will take place on April 16th from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Masonic Theatre in Clifton Forge.

Abandoned and dilapidated buildings dot the landscape of many Virginia communities, perpetuating blight, reducing property values, and discouraging economic investment. WVU Brownfields, Abandoned, and Dilapidated (BAD) Buildings began in 2012 to provide technical assistance and tools to communities to address these issues across the state, and since then has worked with more than twenty-five communities across three states to identify and prioritize abandoned and dilapidated properties and create redevelopment plans to address blight based on local priorities.

During this community meeting, presenters will review work completed so far, provide an overview of the BAD Buildings process, and facilitate discussion aimed at assigning scores based on community-aligned priorities to determine which properties should be prioritized moving forward.

WVU BAD Buildings provides technical assistance, research, and other resources to rural communities to address abandoned and dilapidated properties. WVU BAD Buildings is a program of the West Virginia Water Research Institute at West Virginia University.
