The City's Cafe & Brewery Enjoys Pleasant Ribbon-Cutting Event

Covington, VA (March 25, 2026)— It was a cloudless blue today outside The City's Cafe & Brewery when the Journal showed up for today's special ribbon-cutting event. "This is our first ribbon-cutting of 2026," said Josh Taylor, Executive Director for the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. "...We're very excited to be here, especially after seeing all that food in the back of the room."

If you ask us, Taylor was not embellishing. The City Cafe & Brewery had an exceptional spread in the back to celebrate today's ribbon-cutting event. Among those items were several of the restaurant's specialties, including homemade meatballs.

The Journal spoke to the restaurant's owner, Jeannie Boguess, back in November who shared that everything was made in-house including their chili, salads, fresh-cut fries, coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, etc. The restaurant also utilizes local farmers for all their vegetables and meats. "I just wanted to go old-school," Boguess told us during our first meeting. "When you walk in, I want it to feel like it smells and looks like home or grandma's house."

The ribbon-cutting event ended with Boguess, her staff, and several visitors traipsing outside to officially cut the big red ribbon.

The City Cafe & Brewery owner Jeannie Boguess thanked guests for coming to the special ribbon-cutting event.

(L to R) Clifton Forge Mayor Jeff Irvine and Covington City Manager Allen Dressler were among the local government officials who attended Covington's first ribbon-cutting event of 2026.
