Two Covington Residents Arrested for Possession with Intent to Distribute Charges

| Covington, VA (March 3, 2026) - The following is a press release from the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office:
"On February 25, 2026, a Deputy from the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop based upon intelligence received from the City of Covington Police Department in conjunction with the Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force in the Fairlawn area of Covington. The occupants were identified as Elliott Wright and Katherine Walters. A K9 from the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office was summoned to conduct a free air sniff and immediately detected an odor of illegal narcotics.
A total of 199 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 1.8 grams of cocaine, and $856.00 were seized as a result of the vehicle search.
Both Wright and Walters were arrested and booked at the Alleghany Regional Jail for Possession with intent to distribute.
Sheriff Moore stated, “This was a cooperative effort between several different agencies that once again succeeded in removing a large amount of drugs from the streets of Alleghany County. We are very grateful for the hard work that these folks are putting in regarding the eradication of drugs, and please know that we will not cease in our efforts. Drugs such as methamphetamines and cocaine have caused a tremendous amount of pain and grief in our community as well as the entire Commonwealth of Virginia.”
The Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force is comprised of officers from the Craig, Bath, and Alleghany County Sheriff's offices, City of Covington, and the Virginia State Police.
