Give Local Alleghany Highlands 2026 Registration is Open

Covington, VA (Feb. 23, 2026) - The Alleghany Foundation and the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism are excited to sponsor the annual Give Local Alleghany Highlands (GLAH) fundraising event once again. Last year, Give Local Alleghany Highlands helped participating nonprofits raise over $1,000,000.

The event is open to all nonprofits with programs serving residents in the City of Covington and Alleghany County, Virginia. Online registration is now open, and there is no registration fee. This 24-hour online and offline fundraising event will occur on May 19, 2026.

Kelly Dean Madsen, president of The Alleghany Foundation Board of Directors, says, “We’re thrilled to celebrate the tremendous success of Give Local Alleghany Highlands last year, and we’re ready to continue this momentum in 2026! The area nonprofits are the heartbeat of the Alleghany Highlands community, and each is doing incredible work that transforms lives every day. The year 2026 marks the 6th year of the Give Local Alleghany Highlands event, and we’re proud to maintain our commitment with a robust $65,000 prize pool. We’re cheering on all of the amazing nonprofits who participate. Your dedication to fundraising and community impact inspires us all!â€

As Give Local Alleghany Highlands enters its sixth year, the focus remains on building relationships among donors and local nonprofits. Building relationships grows nonprofit donor participation, which is essential to ensuring the sustainability and longevity of local nonprofit organizations. To increase participation during the online giving day, GLAH offers games with cash prizes to incentivize first time donors and to encourage established friends.

To further boost participation from new donors and retain existing donors, participating nonprofits are encouraged to watch the training videos available on the GLAH website. They can also contact The Alleghany Foundation staff for assistance with ideas and implementation. Additionally, online video calls will be available for everyone to ask questions and discuss Giving Day.

Local students may again participate in the Give Local Alleghany Highlands "Senior Class Giving Day." This initiative, sponsored by The Alleghany Foundation, aims to increase high school seniors' understanding of the role of nonprofits in their communities. Students will learn about each nonprofit participating in the GLAH event, create a presentation about those nonprofits, and cast their votes for the organization they wish to support. For every vote a participating nonprofit receives, The Alleghany Foundation will donate $50 to that organization. This activity not only encourages student involvement but also significantly boosts the fundraising efforts of the participating nonprofits.

In addition to raising funds, the GLAH website serves as a resource for learning about local nonprofits' services and as an opportunity for the community to support these organizations through donations or volunteer opportunities. Community support is crucial in helping these organizations continue their valuable work in our community. Each participating organization will have its webpage on the GiveLocalAH.org website. These pages will include information about each organization's mission, provide a resource for current and past projects, and serve as a fundraising platform. Furthermore, all organizations participating in GLAH can use their web pages for year-round communications and fundraising.

The updated website and registration are open now. Organizations can register at https://GiveLocalAH.org/. General registration will close on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

For nonprofits wishing to participate in the "Senior Class Giving Day" presentation program, registration closes on Friday, 6, March 2026. This earlier closing date allows the students time to prepare their presentations.

Potential donors and community members are encouraged to visit the website, learn more about the event, and consider how they can contribute to Give Local Alleghany Highlands' success.
