Iron Gate, VA (Jan. 29, 2026)— During tonight's regularly scheduled Iron Gate Town Council, the Journal learned of the departure of Vice-Mayor Brandon Marshall on the same night when Councilwoman Patricia "Pat" Shiflett officially attended her first meeting.
The news of Marshall's resignation came of no surprise, as the outgoing Vice-Mayor had made several comments in month's past before and during meetings about a potential departure to spend more time with his family. Tonight, those concerns became a reality as Mayor Kawahna Persinger read his resignation letter aloud to members of council and attendees. Council voted —reluctantly, according to Councilwoman Jennifer Tyree— to accept Marshall's resignation.
Marshall's resignation came on the same night that newcomer, Councilwoman Patricia "Pat" Shiflett, officially attended her first town council meeting.
The Journal will soon have the Mayor's Report available on our Facebook page. | | Mayor Kawahna Persinger read outgoing Vice-Mayor Brandon Marshall's resignation letter shortly after delivering her monthly mayor's report.

 | Iron Gate resident Randy Unroe is a regular attendee at the Iron Gate Town Council Meetings. This evening, he offered a suggestion to help with water bill adjustments that would put less pressure on the town to absorb so much of them. It appeared to us that his suggestion is being taken into careful consideration.
