Alleghany Highlands Community Services' 'Unity Box' Sees Surging Community Impact
Over 1,400 Life-Saving Supplies Distributed Since August

Covington, VA (Jan. 28, 2026) - Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) is proud to announce the significant success of its Unity Box initiative, a round-the-clock health and harm reduction resource hub. Since the program’s inception in August, the community has accessed over 1,400 essential health items, proving the vital need for low-barrier, 24/7 access to prevention tools.

The Unity Box program provides free, anonymous access to life-saving supplies in both Clifton Forge and Covington. By removing the barriers of cost and stigma, the initiative ensures that vital tools are available to any resident, at any time, with no questions asked.

2025 Impact Metrics (Since August)

The data collected since the launch of the updated initiative highlights a high level of community engagement and a proactive approach to public health:

• 602 condoms

• 325 Fentanyl test strips

• 278 xylazine test strips

• 152 Ma;pxpme (Narcan) kits

• 76 Sharps Disposal units

Total Impact: 1,433 items

“The numbers we are seeing confirm that the Unity Box is filling a critical gap in our community,” said Ingrid Barber, Executive Director. “Distributing over 150 kits of Naloxone and hundreds of test strips means our neighbors are taking active steps to prevent overdose and stay safe. This project is about unity, compassion, and action. By providing these vital resources, we are fostering a healthier, stronger, and more hopeful Alleghany Highlands.”

Each Unity Box is stocked with Naloxone (Narcan) to reverse opioid overdoses, fentanyl and xylazine test strips, condoms, and single-use sharps containers. Boxes also include educational brochures to promote safer practices and informed healthcare choices.

Residents can find the Unity Box at the following locations:

Clifton Forge: 543 Church Street (near the Clifton Forge Public Library)

Covington: 311 S Monroe Avenue (at the Alleghany Highlands Community Services Clinic)

All resources remain completely free to the public. For more information, please contact AHCS at 540-965-2100 or visit www.ahcsb.org.
