Covington Locals Brave the Cold for First-Ever New Year's Celebration in Historic Downtown

Covington, Va (Dec. 31, 2025)— This evening, the Alleghany Journal paid a visit to Historic downtown Covington in the early hours of their first-ever New Year's Eve celebration. We were pleased to see we weren't the only ones braving the cold.

A few residents walked the streets this evening at 7:00 p.m. during our visit, enjoying the tastes of Love All Barbecue and Cousins Maine Lobster Virginia. Meanwhile, others stepped inside Mountain Rush to warm up, enjoying the arcade games, virtual reality sets, and the air hockey table downstairs. "It's a Wonderful Life" was playing against the gray brick wall outside of the popular 410 Main Street building as one man enjoyed the cornhole set.

At midnight tonight, a lit-up ball on the corner of the Mountain Rush building is expected to drop, reminiscent of New York's infamous, yearly ball drop, and fireworks will go off to ring in the New Year.
