Councilman Chris Mayo recently accepted the position of Vice Mayor following outgoing Vice-Mayor Brandon Marshall's verbal resignation, the Journal has learned.

Marshall Resigns as Mayo Takes Over Vice-Mayor Seat in Iron Gate By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer   Iron Gate, VA (Dec. 11, 2025)—Shortly after tonight's Iron Gate Tree Lighting Ceremony, the Journal was able to sit down briefly with Mayor Kawahna Persinger and learned that the current Vice-Mayor, Brandon Marshall, recently expressed his desire to resign from the position. Persinger then reached out to one of council's newest members, Christopher Mayo, to fill the void. Mayo accepted. The position is not yet official, as Marshall has not yet turned in his letter of resignation. However, after our brief talk with Mayo and Persinger this evening, it would seem Marshall's decision is final.
