These Covington Middle School students gained a hands-on learning experience by participating in a Veterans Day ceremony on November 10. The students presented readings on the history and significance of Veterans Day, the meaning of the red, white, and blue, and the poem “In Flanders Fields.” They also explained the story behind the Buddy Poppy and watched members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars demonstrate the proper way to fold the American flag. The program honored each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and concluded with “God Bless the USA” and the presentation of Buddy Poppies to students and faculty.
