Iron Gate Council to Soon Welcome New Member, New Zoning Coordinator
| By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer | Iron Gate, VA (Oct. 30, 2025)— On the evening of Thursday, October 30, the Iron Gate Town Council met for their regular monthly meeting and announced that two new persons would soon be joining the staff. Pat Shiflett is set to be a member of the Iron Gate Town Council while Paul Booze will be the new zoning coordinator. Booze replaces Brenda Lindsay who recently announced she was unable to fulfill the position due to personal matters.
During Thursday night's meeting, the council also discussed several other matters related to the town, such as the Dominion Energy Easement. As previously reported by the Journal, there is a potential new project underway which will be spearheaded by Dominion if all goes well. The project would include burying electrical lines underground to help prevent power outages throughout the town.
However, Dominion is unable to begin the project until council approves the project. According to Mayor Kawahna Persinger, she has already sent the easement to the town attorney [Jim Guynn] for review, but he has not yet responded. "I'm sure that we could go ahead and potentially vote to accept the Dominion Energy Easement as it is written unless we receive notification from the town attorney that it needs to be tweaked," Persinger stated, "or we can hold off and I can call Dominion and let them know that they're going to have to wait until we have our November council meeting before we can vote on this." Ultimately, the latter was agreed upon.
As for next month's meetings, since the last Thursday of the month falls on Thanksgiving, the previous Thursday was chosen to hold the regular meeting. Therefore, the work session will be held on Monday, November 17th at 7:00 p.m. with the Iron Gate Town Council meeting to be held on Thursday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m. | | Mayor Kawahna Persinger gave a lengthy mayor's report, all of which is now available on the Alleghany Journal Facebook page.
