Clifton Forge, VA (Oct. 14, 2025)— On Tuesday, October 14, the Clifton Forge Town Council held its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at Town Hall. During the meeting, Gayle Hillert, Vice-President of the Masonic Theatre Preservation Foundation's Board of Directors, offered a detailed presentation on the Historic Masonic Theatre's (HMT) plans to raise money to keep the theatre going.

During Hillert's presentation, she offered a great deal of data to explain the HMT's expenses, funding sources, numerous activities, former upgrades, necessary future upgrades, survey results detailing the many activities they enjoy most at the HMT, etc.

The general theme of the presentation was the monies needed to maintain the theatre and ensure the unique structure has a future. Hillert mentioned several current and future fundraising ideas, including state, local, and federal grants the theatre will be signing up for in order to continue gathering funds for the HMT's upkeep and future uses. Hillert's entire presentation was livestreamed on the Alleghany Journal's Facebook and is currently available for viewing.

Shortly thereafter, Clifton Forge Town Manager, Chuck Unroe, gave his manager's report. He began by thanking all members of council for recently attending the Virginia Municipal League's conference held in Roanoke. Unroe also thanked Amanda Gunter, Assistant Director of Clifton Forge Public Works. This evening, the Journal learned that Gunter is so dedicated to her job that she was out helping to fix a water leak recently at 4:10 p.m. with her sister's wedding happening that same evening at 5:00 p.m.

Town Manager Chuck Unroe's full manager comments are now available for viewing on the Alleghany Journal's Facebook page and YouTube channel.
