Low Moor, VA (Oct. 7, 2025) - The Alleghany County Board of Supervisors approved an independent living facility for 203 Interstate Drive last night (owned by Krishna Sankar) which will offer more than 70 units for occupancy by people 55 and over. Richard L. Jones of Jones and JOnes Assciates Architects PC, provided some details of the operation and answered a few questions.

There were a few questions asked and answered, and citizen Carolyn Jones even provided a bit of humor (as did Sups chairman Matt Garten, during the session.
In other action, the Sups:
- approved a budget amendment due to carry forwards in its budget in the amount of $6,353,254 and outstanding encumbrances of $1,314,891 from the last fiscal year's budget.
- heard VDOT resident engineer Susan Hammond report on roads and maintenance issues.
- approved a supplemental appropriation in fiscal year 2026 for the Virginia 911 Services Board grant and insurance proceeds.
- heard Alleghany/Covington Sheriff Kyle Moore present his quarterly report on jail statistics, animal control and more.
- approved the waiving of up to $1,000 in building permit and tipping fees for the Town of Clifton Forge for operations at 608 Main St.
- delayed an appointment to the Board of Zoning Appeals that would replace Shawn Simmons.
- heard county administrator Ken McFadyen supply a number of issues updates with a thorough report
- issued their normal, monthly set of public comments.
