Alleghany Devours Stuarts Draft For Homecoming Victory
| By Jennifer Bailey Staff Writer | Covington, VA (Oct. 3, 2025)— The fall weather made itself known for the first time this football season as temperatures dropped into the 60's for tonight's Cougar vs. Cougar Homecoming game at Casey Field. The Alleghany Cougars took on the Stuarts Draft Cougars, ultimately securing the victory 41-16.
It was a slow start tonight, with the Cougars nearly chewing up the clock in the first quarter. Then, with 3:09 remaining on the clock, quarterback Des Jordan secured a pass to Austin Greene for the first Alleghany touchdown of the night. 7-0 to end the first.
In a gutsy move early in the second, the Alleghany Cougars opted to go for it on 4th and 2 on the Stuart's Draft 2-yard-line. Success. Brady May helped extend the Cougars' lead. 14-0 with 8:12 until the half. A field goal by Stuarts Draft gave Alleghany only an 11 point lead going into the half. 14 Alleghany, 3 Stuarts Draft.
At halftime, the homecoming court was called onto the field. They are as followed: Jaxon Brewster and Madison Harmon (freshman prince and princess), Carson Cosby and Emilee Bush (sophomore prince and princess), and Cody Guilda and Emily Haynes (junior prince and princess). The senior court are as followed: Joowon Chung, Kylie Forbes, Hannah Hensley, Meredith Minter, Kiera Lowman, Kember Herstine, Ezekiel Saville, Garrett Carper, Evan Bishop, Carter Nicely, and Connor Broughman. The homecoming king and queen were Connor Broughman and Kember Herstine.
Coming back in the third, quarterback Des Jordan got the first touchdown of the second half after running the ball in for 34 yards. With 9:31 on the clock, Alleghany had pulled further ahead 21-3. Brady May would secure another Alleghany touchdown, putting blue (Alleghany) over burgundy (Stuarts Draft) 27-3 going into the fourth.
We're not too sure what was put into the Gatorade bottles between the third and fourth quarters, but whatever it was seemed to energize both teams. Carter Nicely scored a touchdown, putting Alleghany up 34-3. Then Jay Godfrey intercepted the ball in Alleghany's own endzone for a touchback. However, Alleghany was unable to capitalize on the turnover and Stuarts Draft wound up getting the ball back and scoring their first touchdown of the game late in the fourth. With 2:55 remaining on the clock, Alleghany was up 34-10.
Alleghany answered back quickly with a touchdown of their own in just 22 seconds with Kymari Rice running the ball in for a touchdown. 41-10, Alleghany.
In less than a minute, Stuarts Draft scored the final touchdown of the game with 1:37 remaining. At the end of the night, Alleghany had taken down Stuarts Draft 41-16, protecting their undefeated record and moving it to 5-0. | | | |
