Covington, VA (Sept. 4, 2025)— Sometime around 10:00 a.m. this morning, the Alleghany Journal met up with both the Covington City Manager, Allen Dressler, and Covington Parks and Recreation Director, Lisa Worley to discuss all that's happening around Casey Field.

Readers may have noted our report from Tuesday evening's Covington Work Session where Dressler updated Council on a few specific items regarding Casey Field. Namely, the progress on the locker rooms and restrooms. This was also noted by the City Manager last week during the Journal's visit with him at the Jackson River Sports Complex where Dressler kindly updated us on the many new developments in the City of Covington.

This morning, the Journal spoke with both Lisa Worley and Allen Dressler to obtain a bit more information on the developments at Casey Field and what's to be expected once renovations are completed. According to both, these are much-needed renovations made possible by a recently-approved grant to the city for the project.

"The first game was played here back in September of 1962," Dressler said. He also noted that there had been no changes to the restrooms or locker rooms in the 63 years since the stadium was initially built.

From what we were able to ascertain during our video tour and discussion with Dressler, everything is being gutted, replaced, rebuilt, and repainted. The City Manager noted new plumbing, a new ventilation system, new electrical wiring, new stalls and facilities, new showers, and, of course, fresh paint— all of which are being done by local contractors. Unfortunately, the restrooms won't be complete in time for tomorrow night's game. However, porta-potties will be available and —Dressler presumes— the restrooms should be available for the next home against Staunton in two weeks.

As for the exterior, several public works individuals were noted outside painting the lines on the football field as well as the infamous "COUGARS" in the endzones. Dressler stated that Public Works had addressed several concerns from the public, as well. This included slip-resistant stairs and welding a few rails.

The Journal's complete video tour will be soon be available on the Alleghany Journal Facebook page.
Slip-resistant stairs were among the exterior updates at Casey Field.

Dressler noted that a few of the rails had been welded tighter, providing additional safety for spectators.

Several men from Public Works were present at Casey Field today, helping with various tasks including painting the lines on the football field in preparation for tomorrow night's first home game.
