Virginia Dept. Of Wildlife Resources Investigates Humphries Accident

| Henrico, VA (July 8, 2025) - At approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 4, 2025 the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources received notification from the Allegheny Sheriff’s Office that an individual had been recovered from the Jackson River near Covington, Virginia.
The following investigation revealed that a kayaker, Michael A. Humphries, 64, of Covington, Virginia, had fallen into the river from his kayak and died at the scene.
Mr. Humphries was not wearing a life jacket, but one was on the recovered kayak.
At this point in the investigation, it is unclear what caused Mr. Humphries to fall out of his kayak. The incident remains under investigation. | | | |
