The Rev. Katherine Kanto Doyle Called as Rector

| Covington, VA (May 20, 2025) - The Vestries of St. Luke's and Emmanuel Episcopal Churches are excited to announce that we have called The Rev. Katherine Kanto Doyle as Rector, serving each of our parishes 1/2 time. In our time with Katherine as our Priest-in-Charge we have discovered that we work well together in ministry and that our parishes have experienced greater vitality in the name of Christ. Therefore, we are pleased now to make the shared ministry between our parishes and with Katherine a regular ongoing relationship by calling her as our Rector. Please join us in celebrating our partnership with each other and with Katherine and giving thanks to God for the new opportunity before us.
The Rev. Katherine Kanto Doyle has been deeply committed to serving her faith community throughout her life. Called to the priesthood in 1997, she remained a devoted stay-at-home mother of four young adult children until entering seminary in 2009. She was ordained to the Diaconate on this day, May 19, 2012, and to the Priesthood on December 8, 2012, in the Diocese of Kentucky by The Rt. Rev. Terry A. White. She began her ordained ministry serving as Associate Rector at Calvary Episcopal Church. She was then called to become Rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Louisville where she served for 6 ½ years. During this time, she also served as Coordinator for Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Diocese of Kentucky.
With a master's degree in psychology and extensive board leadership experience, Katherine served as president of the board for Central Louisville Community Ministries for eight years, vice president of the board of Family Health Centers in Louisville, KY, and she now serves as a trustee for Randolph College. Katherine also has taught psychology at Augusta College and Aiken Technical College.
In 2022, Katherine moved to Covington, Virginia, with her husband, Chris Doyle, the Executive Director of Boys Home of Virginia. She serves Boys Home as a volunteer chaplain. She is a member of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia. Katherine is a member of the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council Board of directors and serves as treasurer of the Covington Woman’s Club.
Katherine holds a BA from UVA (1990), an MS from Augusta State University (1993), an MDiv from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary (2011), and a Certificate in Anglican Studies from Bexley Seabury (2012). Currently, she is completing her Dmin in Congregational Development. She and her husband were married in 1993 and continue to share a life of service and faith.
Services are held weekly at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Maple Avenue in Covington at 11:00 AM. Holy Eucharist is celebrated on the first and third Sunday. Morning prayer is held on the second and fourth Sunday. Services are held weekly at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Sam Sneed Hwy in Hot Springs at 11 o’clock. Holy Eucharist is celebrated on the second and fourth Sunday. Morning prayers are held on the first and third Sunday.
Additionally, Emmanuel hosts a covered dish supper and Compline service at 6 o’clock on the second Wednesday of each month. Emmanuel also hosts a community covered dish supper at 6 o’clock on the fourth Sunday of each month. The public is invited to attend any of these meals and services.
St. Luke’s hosts senior bingo on the third Sunday of the month from 2-3 pm. It is a laughter-infused fun hour. St. Luke’s also hosts an International Workers Night primarily for international workers at The Omni Homestead on the first Wednesday of the month at 6 pm. All are welcome for this time of fun and fellowship. | | | |
