Several guests stayed behind to help disassemble "The Wall That Heals." One of those volunteers spoke to the Journal and told us they only anticipated about 20 volunteers, but around 100 showed up.

Covington City Manager, Allen Dressler, offered a few closing remarks before "The Wall That Heals" was broken down by dozens of volunteers.

Seven VMI cadets attended the closing ceremony for "The Wall That Heals." While one played a moving rendition of "Taps" on his trumpet, the remaining six carried flags.

The Journal left the Jackson River Sports Complex shortly before "The Wall That Heals" made its exit out of town. We waited in front of Cucci's to catch a glimpse of the traveling wall as it rode by with police escort before heading to South Carolina.
