Olde Town Covington Gets $6,000 Grant For Alley Gallery Project   Covington, VA (July 30, 2024) - On Monday, June 24, 2024 Olde Town Covington was notified that they were one of sixteen projects across the state who were awarded grant money from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). Olde Town Covington is the recipient of $6,000 which will pair with several in-kind donations from local businesses to develop and install Covington’s first ever Alley Gallery. In the Spring of this year, Olde Town Covington applied for a Community Vitality Grant (CVG) with the Virginia DHCD to assist with the implementation of an Alley Gallery in downtown Covington. “The Virginia Main Street CVGs assist organizations and communities in achieving their downtown revitalization goals and are available to all active Exploring Main Street and Mobilizing Main Street communities and organizations. “ (Virginia DHCD, June 2024) “We have been working on this project for quite some time and are so excited to see it start taking shape.” said Olde Town Covington Vice President, Jennifer Smith. “We plan to have a call for art in the very near future and will also be advertising the opportunity to sponsor a display case. Our hope is to have everything completed in time for Covington’s Hometown Halloween celebration scheduled for Friday, October 25, 2024.” “Governor Glenn Younkin announced over $690,000 in Virginia Main Street (VMS) and Community Business Launch (CBL) grants for 16 projects across the Commonwealth. ‘Downtowns and small businesses are the heart and soul of so many communities across the Commonwealth, and my administration recognizes the importance of supporting strong entrepreneurial ecosystems in our downtown districts,’ said Governor Glenn Youngkin. ‘By investing in our small business communities and historic downtowns, we are growing local economies and ensuring that Virginia is open for business’.”(Virginia DHCD, June 2024).
