| Covington, VA (July 18, 2024) The American Legion Post 240 and VFW Post 1841 in Daleville recently offered an official commendation to the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council for their presentation of the U.S. Army Six String Soldiers back in April. Yeoman Chief Harry E. Helton, Sr. of Prospect Street in Covington, presented the letter of acclamation to Arts Council Executive Director Tammy Scruggs-Duncan and board member Steve Minter on Thursday. A generous donation also accompanied the commendation.
Chief Helton said, “That concert was a tremendous success in that veterans from across the region were invited to attend free of charge and enjoyed, not just excellent music but the camaraderie of those who served our country with them. The American Legion supports veterans and community projects like Boys State and Girls State. We use any funds raised, usually through the Buddy Poppy campaign, for these purposes. “
