MCT Residency: Twenty Young People Here Learn A Lot...

Covington, VA (June 17, 2024) - Twenty local young people spent the week on the Boys Home campus learning lines, songs, and choreography and making friends during the Missoula Children's Theatre residency sponsored annually by the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council.

The Sleeping Beauty fairy tale chronicles how a lost invitation to a christening brings dastardly consequences. Evil Scarella was played by Emily Gadd, Young Beauty was Caylin Kern, Older Beauty was Kensi Lomasney, and The three nasty trolls were Xavier Barnes, Christian Cook, and Levi Karenbuaer. Fairies were Larkin Lomasney, Leah Miller, and Madison Withrow, the Palace Guard; Gwen Halterman, and The Cook; Ellie Mann, The King; Isaiah Layman, the Queen; Kaylynn McDavid Kilgore, and their trusty dog Spot was portrayed by Hatcher Lomasney. The crabby caterpillars Lexi Balser, Gilbert Lomasnety, Stella Miller, and Josie Rayman found happiness once they had evolved into butterflies. MCT's Bella Mancuson was the Court Jester, while her partner Charity Walton directed the show with help from Assistant Directors Isaac Snyder, Sedekee Koroma, and Cathy Drummer, cast accompanist.

MCT has visited our community since 1995. The Alleghany Foundation and the Frances P. Rupert Memorial Scholarship Fund (through Community Foundations Serving Southwestern Virginia) have been longstanding supporters. This year, Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board and Boys Home of Virginia have been welcome partners. Boys Home has graciously hosted on The Hill for the last two years. The Missoula Children's Theatre domestic Tour is sponsored by Cosmic Crisp®. Additional funding is provided by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Montana Cultural Trust.
