CFSOTA Summer Gallery Exhibition, Katharine Benedict March

Clifton Forge, VA (June 6, 2024) - Clifton Forge School of the Arts Announces New Exhibition: Katharine Benedict March: Recent Works from the Studio and en Plein Air.

Clifton Forge, Virginia – May 23, 2024 – Clifton Forge School of the Arts is pleased to announce its summer gallery exhibition, Katharine Benedict March: Recent Works from the Studio and en Plein Air. The show features the stunning paintings of award-winning Staunton artist Katharine Benedict March. On view is March’s comprehensive collection of still life paintings produced in her studio alongside breathtaking landscape paintings created outside, or en plein air.

Katharine B. March’s paintings have previously been represented in juried and solo shows throughout the region, winning awards for her work along the way. Her work is owned by collectors across the United States and abroad. March studied art at the Beverly Street Studio School and independently with nationally known artists.

March primarily paints in oils and finds the medium highly adaptable to layering color and showing how light affects color as it travels across it. Artistic influences include American and French Impressionists, Richard Diebenkorn, and contemporary artists Peggy Kroll Roberts and Carol Marine, as well as John Singer Sargent. She prefers to work outdoors if weather permits and takes part in juried en plein air competitions.

During warmer months, March spends her time painting outdoors, and has spent countless hours painting in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. As she paints, March enjoys engaging with tourists, listening to their art experiences, and passing along local recommendations. When temperatures drop, March paints still life arrangements in her studio, or paints from her car and has surprised herself with the unique results she gets painting in such close quarters. March also enjoys focusing on architecture as a subject matter when painting in town.

CFSOTA will celebrate this luminous exhibition on Friday, June 21, 2024 with a reception, which all are welcome to attend. There will be live music, light refreshments, an opportunity to meet the artist, and a Build Your Own Bouquet Bar. Join us to experience Katharine B. March’s accomplished work with the opportunity to add a piece to your art collection.
