Another successful youth angler displays part of his catch on Sat., April 20, 2024 at Boys Home.

Alleghany Co. Parks & Rec. Dept: Kids' Fishing Day Well Attended   Covington, VA (April 23, 2024) - The 34th Annual Kids Fishing day held on April 20, 2024 brought more than 150 kids out to enjoy the outdoors while spending time with family! This event is generously held at Boys Home each year which allows all to use Dunlap Creek that runs through its property. This year over 500 pounds of fish were stocked into the creek by Cedar Spring Fish Farm out of Rural Retreat, VA. The fish were superb, coming out of the water ranging from anywhere between 1 pound up to 2.8 pounds! "Our generous sponsors allow this event to be totally free to kids and their families by helping with the purchase of picnic items as well as prizes to give away. Bartley’s Meat Market donates over 350 hotdogs each year for this event free of charge so everyone can enjoy a nice lunch after a day of fishing!," said Kaatlyn Small, Assistant Supervisor.
