Give Local Alleghany Highlands to Take Place on May 21, 2024

Covington, VA (Feb. 12, 2024) - The Alleghany Foundation and the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism are pleased to announce the fourth year of Give Local Alleghany Highlands, which will take place on May 21, 2024. This 24-hour online fundraising event raised over $500,000 for local participating non-profits last year.

Give Local Alleghany Highlands is open to all non-profits with programs that serve residents in the City of Covington and Alleghany County, Virginia, and there is no registration fee. Organizations can register now at https://GiveLocalAH.org/

“We are thrilled to be hosting the fourth year of this event,” said Dr. Sue Rollinson, president of The Alleghany Foundation Board of Directors. “The continued support from the community is inspiring, and we are especially excited to see the high school education program grow as the students learn of the local non-profits that make our community stronger.”

“The Chamber has many nonprofit members engaged with the Give Local event, and we are pleased to be a partner in supporting this effort and encouraging all of our members to connect with this effort,” says Teresa Hammond, director of the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.

As Give Local Alleghany Highlands (GLAH) enters its 4th year, an aim for the event is to focus on sustainability. Local participation among non-profits is key to helping GLAH remain a meaningful fundraising avenue, and the growth of non-profit donor participation is also essential. Non-profits are encouraged to view the training videos on the GLAH website and also reach out to the staff for help with ideas and implementation.

Sustainability also means reaching the next generation. A goal of the Alleghany Foundation is to have high school seniors become more knowledgeable about the role of non-profits in their communities. To this end, local students have a chance to become involved in the Give Local Alleghany Highlands “Senior Class Giving Day.” With this opportunity, students learn about each non-profit participating in the online GLAH 2024 and cast their vote for the organization they want to support. For every vote a participating non-profit receives, The Alleghany Foundation will send $50 to that non-profit.

Give Local Alleghany Highlands provides residents a resource to learn about services offered by local non-profits and support these organizations with donations. Each organization participating in the event will have its own page on the GiveLocalAH.org website. These webpages will include information about what services the organization provides and offer an opportunity to submit an online donation to the organization. All organizations that participate in Give Local Alleghany Highlands will be able to use their web pages for fundraising year-round.

The Alleghany Foundation will provide thousands of dollars in prizes and bonus incentives to foster friendly competition among organizations and encourage residents to donate. Non-profit organizations interested in participating in Give Local Alleghany Highlands have until April 19 to register. However, registering early will provide opportunities to participate in free webinars and provide access to other resources to help make the event successful. If you want to learn more about the program, please visit the GiveLocalAH.org website or contact Madge Vosteen at contact@GiveLocalAH.org or (540) 962-0970.
