In the race for Sheriff of Alleghany County and Covington, former Virginia State Trooper Kyle Matt Moore pulled off a stunningly sound victory over four term incumbent Sheriff Kevin Hall, winning every single precinct in both Alleghany County and Covington.
In the race for a single seat on the Alleghany County School Board, incumbent John Littleton appears to have squeaked by with a 7 vote victory over longtime area teacher and coach Bob Umstead, with former Alleghany County School Board member Richard Shull placing third, making a good showing.
(The Journal used the term "appears" in the above paragraph because, in fact, the Alleghany Highlands School Board race is not "over" until the local Board of Elections certify the results sometime after 2:30 p.m. next Monday. According to Alleghany County Registrar of Voters, Tiney Rose, state law requires the counting of all ballots that are mailed by election day to be counted by the following Friday - but due to the fact that this Friday is a holiday, that certified count won't be completed until Monday. Ms. Rose noted that there are in the neighborhood of about sixty ballots that may be involved in that future counting.)
In the race for both the Virginia Senate District 3 and the House of Delegates race for District 37, both Republicans easily won.
